Antitrust to follow Labor Reset
Even Google couldn’t tell me who first said that “change happens slowly at first, then all at once.” Perhaps it was Mandelbrott or some other person on the forefront of non-linear thinking.
For those of you who may have missed it, in addition to growing labor strife caused by inflation, the population’s sensitivity to corporate pricing power in the form of monopolies and pseudo monopolies is driving more discussions. Whether it is the pharmaceutical industry’s outsized returns on commercialized government research, Amazon and Google’s dominance of their particular digital realms or NFL running backs being paid less per TD than other skill player, the discussions are happening and happening more loudly.
These are the same discussions that grew in importance and volume a century ago. My view is that UPS is today recognized as paying its drivers a substantial premium but in five years, it will be seen as a wise strategic move to let some pressure out of the system before it exploded. Other decision makers will do well to preempt worse outcomes.
